The squirrel, constructed from the chocolate mold, was positioned as a decadent dessert centerpiece on White House buffet tables. The sturdy white plastic chocolate rooster molds were used for Chef Mesnier's Easter desserts (2) - h:6.50w:4.50in. Provenance: Private collection of Former White House Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier. First Lady Rosalynn Carter hired Mesnier, who served 26 years under five presidents: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. According to Creating the Sweet World of White House Desserts: A Pastry Chef's Secrets, Mesnier created stunning desserts for more than 40 queens, kings, princes, princesses and heads of state. This intricate mold adorned the top of cakes which were used as conversational pieces at White House buffet tables. This mold once rested upon a chocolate cake that Chef Mesnier disguised as a tree stump. It is marked with the manufacturer's number of 44 and 2662 and is clipped together with two pins.   An Epstein Art Deco maple dining suite comprising eight cloud back chairs with red leather upholstery and a dining table with fluted column supports on plinth base table 2ft 8ins x 6ft 9ins x 3ft 5ins Estimate ?2 000-3 000 Table and chairs have been restored in the past 10 years to a good standard and the plum leather upholstery has been replaced this is slightly scuffed but essentially good some re-touching and repairs to veneer here and there on the table and around the edges of the chairs largest patch to the table is probably a 6 inch section around one of the curved edges and has been colour matched and faux grained fairly well other smaller restorations here and there throughout but essentially good. Table is not extending. length is 82ins.
